Who we went undefeated against is the problem.

The system is rigged to favor those who play in very strong conferences. Relative to most conferences, the Sun Belt benefits from the way RPI is "rigged". The problem for the Cajuns this weekend wasn't The RPI of their opponents as much as it was the fact that both had very poor records. As of today, SFA is 5-20 and UCA is 8-15, playing each twice added 26 wins and 70 losses to the "Opponents' record" portion of out RPI. By way of comparison, the two worst RPI among our Conference opponents are a combined 22-22, even though both have RPI's similar to SFA. Since Opponents' record is 50% of RPI, it is pretty easy to see that our weak conference opponents do not hurt us nearly as much as UCA and SFA did.

Exactly! That what a lot of people don't understand... It's not so much the opponent rank that matters in a specific team's RPI rank, it's opponent's record and opponent's opponent's record that enters into the calculation. Home/road/neutral games have different values in the W/L column. It's all one big ball of wax... so if the Cajuns had WON both games @ Oklahoma and exchange that for a loss @ Central Arkansas (split the 2 games)... Cajun RPI calculation and rank is unchanged with that exchange since the Cajuns record, OWP, and OOWP all remain unchanged... (if they had beat OK one extra time and if they had lost to Central Arkansas once).

Of course, they would pick up another good win as well as a bad loss in the eyes of the committee - a whole separate issue...
