Louisiana men's basketball rolled past Coastal Carolina, 80-66, Friday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
The Cajun offense was clicking throughout the game as Louisiana shot 48.4-percent from the floor. Kobe Julien scored a game-high 25 points while Hosana Kitenge and Kentrell Garnett registered 13 and 11 points, respectively. Joe Charles cleaned up the glass as he led with a game-high 10, marking his 19th game this season with 10-or-more boards.
Defensively the Cajuns held the Chanticleers to 15-percent (3-of-20) from beyond the arc.
Louisiana jumped out to a fast start in the first half, taking a 42-29 lead at the break. The Ragin' Cajuns led by nine with 11 minutes to go before Coastal Carolina responded with a 7-0 run to trim the lead to 18-16. Louisiana caught fire from beyond the arc and went on a 12-0, jump started by a trio of threes by London Fields, Kentrell Garnett and Brandon Hardy.
Julien finished the first half with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting as the Cajuns held the Chanticleers to 39 percent from the floor and 2-of-10 from beyond the arc.
Coming out of the half, Kitenge scored Louisiana's first nine points as they led by 20 with 16:58 remaining. Coastal Carolina cut the lead to 11 before the Cajuns responded with a 13-2 run to take a commanding 65-43 lead with 8:23 left, never letting the Chanticleers back into the game down the stretch.
Louisiana advances to the SBC quarterfinals to take on Arkansas State. Tip-off on Saturday is scheduled for 2 p.m. from the Pensacola Bay Center.
