Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball infielder Sam Roe has been named the Sun Belt Conference Softball Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday (March 5, 2024).
Roe delivered six hits on a .333 average for Louisiana over the course of the week, none bigger than a two-run single in the eighth inning of Sunday's win over three-time defending national champion Oklahoma.
Roe's clutch two-out, two-run single against the Sooners stretched the Cajuns lead out to 7-4 and provided premium insurance for clinching the win that halted the Sooners' NCAA record 71-game winning streak.
Sunday's OU outing marked Roe's second multiple-RBI game of the week, adding to the two-run home run that opened the scoring in the first inning of Tuesday's victory at Nicholls.
Roe posted at least one base hit in five of the six games during the week. She becomes the first Ragin' Cajun in the 2024 season to claim an SBC weekly award.
Louisiana, which has received at least one SBC Player or Pitcher of the Week award since the inception of the league in 2000, now owns 100 Sun Belt Player of the Week awards in program history.
The Ragin' Cajuns (10-12) return to action from Saturday-Sunday, March 9-10 in Conway, Arkansas closing out tournament play in the regular season at the Milisa Moore Tournament hosted by Central Arkansas at Farris Field. UL is scheduled to play Stephen F. Austin and host-UCA both days.
