Thread: MS Senator proposes closing 3 state universities

Default MS Senator proposes closing 3 state universities

Mississippi bill aims to shutter 3 public universities (would be TBD in 2025), schools with lowest enrollment are Alcorn State (2,894, FCS), Delta State (2,716, D2), The W (2,227, no football), and Mississippi Valley State (2,196, FCS).

Louisiana should (1) close several universities, or (2) consolidate several universities, or (3) make certain universities feeder schools with no graduate programs for 4 top schools LSU, UL, LA Tech, UNO.

Southern is a state wide university. Remember, they have their own “separate but equal” system.

The Mississippi deal won’t happen. Nobody will swap votes and kill a college. Politicians rather cut programs to the bone and everyone suffer than do righteous work. The politicians would be lining up to save the HBCUs nationwide. Just like years back with SUNO, where 95% never graduated. Ineptness abounds.

This is another part of my rant. Better find a way quick to fix athletic funding. With increasing inflation, things will cost more. Revenue (taxes) won’t keep up, politicians won’t vote for increases. Have to cut budgets. Sports will become low hanging fruit. In Mississippi’s case shutter 3 HBCUs? Basically kill the SWAC?

Louisiana would likely move LSUA out the LSU system and call it a cut for LSU, the ULS system takes the brunt. It’s Louisiana history, smoke and mirrors.

I would close SUNO, Southern U at Shreveport

Make LSUA, and LSUE community colleges.

Then LSU system and UL system

    LSU(flagship)-Nicholls, SELU, UNO, LSUS
    UL(flagship)- McNeese, ULM, LaTech, NWST

Now let LSU have the med school in shreveport, and the other in BR or NO.

Then UL- turn Lourdes into the med school for UL, and ULM built a med school, turn that med school public.

Then i add a law school to UL. Put most of the doctorate programs through the Flagship.

The rest of the schools in each system would be feeder school for the flagship

Grambling and Southern just stays the way they are, Also i would cut Law school at Southern and put that into UL.

There is no medical school coming to UL or any non LSU public university.

Oschner is all in setting up their intern program and, OLOL parent group out of BR is already tied to LSU.

LSUE will always remain LSU. Tied to medical system, high paying jobs, high donors.

UL better make the most of the R1 status, since they’re watering down the requirements soon.
