The Opelousas Police Department’s Special Operations Division has arrested Triston Compton, 23 of 1114 W. Vine StreetOpelousas, for Second Degree Battery. The arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred Thursday afternoon (April 8, 2010). Officers responded to the intersection of Sidney Street and Herman Street in reference to a reported fight. Upon their arrival officers were unable to locate the fight but later learned that one of the subjects that were involved in the fight had been transported to Opelousas General Health Systems by family members. Upon arrival at Opelousas General Officers were advised that the victim, Christopher Chambers, 18 of 623 West Martin Luther King DriveOpelousas, was in critical condition.
Officers were able to speak with several witnesses who identified Mr. Compton as the suspect. Officers were able to make contact with members of Mr. Compton’s family who were able to get Mr. Compton to turn him self in.
Mr. Compton was subsequently charged with Second Degree Battery and incarcerated into the OpelousasCity Jail. Mr. Chambers was later transferred to LafayetteGeneralHospital where he went through emergency surgery. Mr. Chambers is currently listed in critical condition at LafayetteGeneralHospital’s ICU.
