""We have a bunch of work to do in basketball," Gill said. "We have some initiatives we are working on. We know we need to get better and we will.""
The American Athletic Conference, which has often claimed to be the nation's "Power Six" conference, was No. 11 and Conference USA, the league ODU left in 2022 to join the Sun Belt, was No. 14.
I think app and JMU are better this year than UL and usm were last year. I think Troy and the Cajuns this year are comparable to Marshall and JMU last year. A pretty mediocre south Al team made the finals last year and Texas state made the semis. I think overall at the top the play is as good as it’s been in a while.
I read an ESPN analysis stating JMU has an outside shot at an at large bid. I guess they are assuming App wins tournament. Interestingly App is not on the at large bubble despite beating JMU twice. I think both those teams are better than any of the teams in the league last season.
