He didn't use your model of playing 3 guaranteed games a season like ULM. That model is outdated unless you want to start conference play with 3 losses every season.

We never get the national ranking without beating Iowa State first. The odds of us getting another program changing win double if we schedule 2 of these per year instead of 1.

Agreed. How do you think Florida State did it in the 70's? Anybody, anywhere. Took em a decade of beating the LSUs of the world, but they would have never gotten there with UL's mindset of today, that's for sure.

If you don't play P5's, you can't beat them and the schedule will be considered weak overall no matter what Sun Belt teams you beat. I think it's a mistake not to schedule at least 2 per year.

Yes, and he played 1 P5 in 2020 and 1 P5 in 2021, UL ranked both seasons. In 2021 UL won 12 games and lost at Texas. The difference, only 1 loss during the season and won the conference championship. That is the path, not playing multiple P5 programs on the road. Beating a P5 on the road is great, but it's not the model needed.

How many did UL play in 2020 and 2021? The path needed is winning the conference championships and defeating everyone on your conference schedule.

Yet the better season was in 2021. We didn't beat Texas and defeated everyone on our conference schedule and won the SBC Championship. You don't get there by playing multiple P5's on the road every year. As for getting ranked, how did that work for Liberty?
