BOCA RATON, Florida - he 2024 season started off on the right foot for freshman Samuel Kyjaci, who earned a win at No. 2 singles for the Louisiana men's tennis team. Despite his win on court two, it wasn't enough for the Cajuns to win in their opener, falling at Florida Atlantic 6-1.
Kyjaci won his match without much drama, 6-2, 6-1. On court three, William Ribero was locked in a tight contest. His match ended up in a second-set tiebreaker but he fell, 4-6, 6-7 (3-7). Vasil Dimitrov also had a close match on four but couldn't pull it out, 6-7 (3-7), 1-6.
Elsewhere in singles, Alejo Ferrer Chueca battled in the second set but fell 1-6, 3-6. Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez and Oriol Fillat Gimenez also were defeated in straight sets.
In doubles, Fillat Gimenez and Ribero were locked in a close match, trailing 4-3, before it was called with the Owls taking the doubles point.
It's a quick turnaround for the Cajuns as they take on Florida Gulf Coast tomorrow at noon.
