Dept. of Justice joins states' suit against NCAA transfer rules

The Department of Justice, three more states and the District of Columbia have joined a lawsuit against the NCAA's transfer eligibility rule.

The federal agency signed on to the action, saying in its announcement this week that the NCAA rule on transfers is "an illegal restraint on college athletes' ability to sell their image and likeness and control their education."

Isnt the NIL for something? That would be what it is in return for, "permits athletes to receive market-value compensation for the use of their name, image, and likeness"... "FOR THE USE OF" cant just give money for nothing, one would think the NIL has to be in or on something, a commercial, sign, tweet, etc???

For the school, they give a scholarship, the athlete also recieves NIL but doesn't hit the field and leaves for another team leaving nothing in return for NIL and scholarship.

Doesnt seem like they would have to hit the field but their should be some tangible good or service, one would think i could still be in a chevrolet commercial no matter where i go to school. Wasnt it the player's NIL selling the car allegedly, not the school or team?

Worthless to everyone involved.

No one knows the person if he doesn't hit the field. Might as well pull someone off the streat to do commercials.

College sports are doomed. I’m sure a Title IX suit will come one day.

As a fan, I couldn't help at first but correlate NIL as pay to play. But NIL is not that at all. For me its difficult to justify or get excited giving money to a collective that will oversee paying NIL to a college kid who may or may not be here the next year much less the next day. If you have a business and you get one of the team's stars to be a spokesman for your commercials or social media that makes more sense. That's how I thought NIL was going to go and seemed fair. Never imagined what it quickly became- more potential separation of haves and have nots with fans being asked to pony up donations to pay the players. Of course the players are going the chase the money like most red blooded American grownups. Its hard to blame them since they didn't create this screwball system.
