Thread: Venue that Surprised You Most?

  1. Default Venue that Surprised You Most?

In the same vein of the music appreciation thread, which music venue or bar or festival, etc surprised you most and delivered a kick ass show?

Mine was the Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO. Red Rocks was insane but I expected it to be. The Fox was communal, intimate and acoustics were some of the best I’ve ever experienced.

Honorable mention to the old Circle Bar on St. Charles in New Orleans.

Several years back took the wife to see Smashing Pumpkins at the UofH music auditorium. I'm not really a Pumpkins fan, but she was growing up and never got to see them before they split up.

It was a pretty darn cool venue with how close you sat to the stage. They also served beer and drinks, which I wasn't expecting for an on-campus university auditorium.

Mission Ballroom in Denver, CO was amazing when I went and saw Polyphia there back in October. I didn't have low expectations but it was still very surprising how nice it was.

Red Rocks in 2017 was surprising too. Didn't expect the sound quality to be as good as it was. That was back when you didn't have to pay $200 to sit in general admission there Wanted to see Sleep Token there later this May, but tickets were insane and sold out way too quickly...

The old cattle auction arena on South Henry in Abbeville.

Best acoustics in the world. (well my world )

The basement at Bisbano's never failed to deliver an awesome music experience. Although, it might have been due to countless pitchers of beer.

Always thought the Maple Leaf in New Orleans was a great little bar for music, especially Rebirth.

Tipitina’s is in my top 5 as well.
New addition to the fold would be the Seville Quarter in Pensacola. Wife and I found it last summer and loved it.
