Bring Al on board. Louisiana needs Al. It would be an unbelievable and well deserved coming.

Found another one for y'all. I like this one better.
In an information vacuum I would endorse your take, but we have a plethora of real world information that shows this is not a worry.
The reality is/was no one called UL the Chickens or the Peppers.
A master stroke Spirit Leader won't lead to a different outcome from what history has shown us.
What about the Browns have you seen there mascot and they have it in the middle of the field.
It’s a evil Elf they have it at the 50 yard line . Brownie
Early 90's. I'm sitting in Cajun Field next to some USM guys. We started chatting. Midway through the 1st quarter, guy turns to me and asks, "So, who are y'all? The Cajuns or the Bulldogs?" We still had a bulldog on the sidelines.
Mascots matter. If it is not a physical representation of your nickname, it needs to be a minimal background figure or a fun, spirit leader that no one would confuse with your nickname. (Blood Clot, Cayenne, etc.)
This is the Golden Rule that so many of you here pretend doesn't exist.
Interesting and expected because Bulldog/Ragin Cajuns involved an actual change of core identity.
In the long run it shows that even though the Bulldog was the historically entrenched identity, having a bulldog on the sidelines didn't interfer with Ragin' Cajuns when all was, said, and done.
There is no Rah Rah character that can or will infringe on Ragin' Cajuns.
But there is one that would raise the game day experience and personna.

modern "wave" as a primary logo mark. A new pelican mascot was introduced and given the name Riptide by a vote of Tulane students.
Call it spirit leader, mascot, whatever it will not change the nickname or identity of Ragin Cajuns
I'm done. Go ahead and wreck the brand.
