The committee basically disregards every major rivalry game, unless Bama would have actually lost. I don't necessarily agree with it, but the philosophy is that "anything can happen in games like that."

You're right. Why would anyone want to watch the four best teams in the country? It's much more fun to watch less skilled teams who have a marginally better record.

It helps if you try to separate history from the season that just transpired.

It helps if you don't make excuses for rivalry games like they only help the underdog.

It helps to see things more clearly if you glance away from SEClusive isolation.

No one can convince me that Georgia isn't one of the 4 best teams in the country. Compare their only 3 point loss to a very good (as you say) Alabama team to Bama's 10 point loss to Texas in Tuscaloosa.

Maybe they only lose one game. Maybe they lose two. But their season would suddenly look very different.
If Tennnessee had played Washington instead of Ball State or Tennessee Martin.

If Alabama had played Washington instead of Chatanooga.

If OleMiss had played Washington instead of Mercer.

If LSU or Missouri had played Washington instead of Grambling.

If Tennessee had played Washington instead of Austin Peay ....

Washington would have played a lot of games on the same day, ( ) and of course this could never happen but we would have a much clearer picture of how good the SEC (and W) were this past season.

Ok I won’t excuse rivalry games. On that note, Washington beat Washington State by a total of 3 points.

    There's that as well.

Washington’s (and the PAC12) biggest problems are they’re 1) pretty much out of sight, out of mind and 2) they usually have one game set up by ESPN and the media surfs that outcome for the year.

SEC is just the measuring stick ESPN and the CFP committee uses.

    I agree.

Lol. But that then makes bama out of playoff while simultaneously lowering uga's claim of close game against a playoff team

At some point you have to be good on the right day. Having a 12 team playoff will serve to equalize many of the shortfalls. Georgia, Florida St., Ohio St. and others with only one loss will then participate.

I think the only rationale for leaving Georgia out would be to say that the sec champ game was effectively a play in game for the CFP
