If your point is that, generally speaking, there are no such things as lower tiers or higher tiers except that if you beat a team you are better than them, then my point is valid.

First, beating a team doesn't mean you are better than them. Second, if you can't admit that, as a general rule, certain conferences are of a higher caliber than others (i.e. lower tiers and higher tiers) then I don't know what to tell you.

Of course there are conferences money can buy. How do you think Liberty did what they did this year?

Now they are and outlier and thier conference had nothing to do with their success this year, but on an individual team basis they implemented the slush fund model used by certain conferences overall.

Yes there are vast diferences in how conferences opperate, but year to year you cant use conference to denegrade a particular team like Washington.

You can't make a claim what Washington would have done in the SEC this season.

One thing I like looking at Michigan was their slow steady climb back from mediocrity.

Their refound success wasn't overnight.

I'll leave the early season scandals for someone else.

But if we are being rational, we have a good idea of what the result would be.

Is it just me or is Penix totally overrated? In all of the most important games this year (Oregon, Texas, and Michigan) he missed WIDE open throws. And not just once, but several times.

I'm sure he also had some really good games against lower level teams, and I also know he was injured for a large part of last night's game. But my god he looked awful.

Lets run a 6'4" 280lb defensive lineman right in your face on every play. Oh, yeah and you get hit on 80% of the plays also. No QB on the planet would look like a Heisman candidate in that game.

As to your point, Washington actually beat 5 ranked programs because they played Oregon twice. And if you use end of season rankings, only 4 of those programs are ranked today if you're counting Oregon twice. Bama beat four ranked programs (using either mid-season or end of season rankings) without any repeats.

My point isn't that Bama is better than Washington. My point is that if Washington had to play a schedule like what Ole Miss, South Carolina, or Auburn had to play, there's simply no way that Washington makes it through without a single loss. And even if Washington only takes one loss through an SEC gauntlet (depending on when the loss comes) they likely wouldn't even be in the playoff conversation.

I still think that Alabama's miracle, last second win over a very bad Auburn team should have been considered more heavily.
