""I think we should all be independent in football," Kelly said. "You can have a 64-team conference that's in the Power 5 and you can have a 64-team conference in the Group of 5, and we separate it and we play each other.""
I doubt it happens like this, but hypothetically if it does ....
...and hypothetically if Louisiana had gone independent when it "could have" and played the toughest schedule possible, they would be a shoo-in for the P5-64 just like they were properly positioned when D1 was first formed.
It's cyclical. Something is new in town that has never been seen before, and people will flock to it as long as there is "juice". Inevitably, it winds down for various reasons. See Icegators and Championship Cajun football.
This happens because people that do this are not part of the family. They have not incorporated the thing in question into their soul. The people that make up the RCAF have, and that is about it.
How do you make people believe that they are now in your family and will always remain loyal through it all? It's not about new buildings or new coaches. It's about relationships. It's about mutual respect. It's about meeting the needs of them. It's about communication.
There is the rub. People eventually tire of this family because the people that run this place, time and again, either fail at communicating or never wanted us around in the first place.
