And therein is not how to build fandom. The memories keep people coming back, not an artifact. Ironically, a fossil, so to speak.

This is part of the MBB issue. The Blackham crowd longs for games like when they were students. The environment both location and NCAA structure has changed. Had a decade plus run less death penalty time of great basketball. It was emotions.

Those who were students with the Dome had a few peaks with Marty, Jessie, and even Bob. They were there during the time ESPN blew up nationally and the beginning of MBB getting like football structurally. Again, fans miss that emotion.

We all long for the same feelings we had back then.

It’s simple human nature. We long the thrills of our youth. That’s how fans are built.

Not throttling students. Not trashing the staff. Lack of serious marketing. Both CF and dome are not user friendly. CF is getting fixed. Dome?

The dome is fixed. The product playing at the dome is some of the problem.

It does. Essentially Wade’s infractions at LSU are now McNeese’s problem. He can’t recruit off campus (ie go to summer basketball tournaments and talk to kids). Basically handcuffs him to on-campus duties only.

I believe it expires for him after next season. Biggest issue with show-cause, aside from the scholarship limitations and recruiting restrictions, is McNeese is now on “double-secret probation.”

If Wade commits any sort of violation, McNeese will be penalized harshly. Again, for a school like them, might not be as risky as for a bigger revenue producing program.

And if he leaves McNeese after this season, next school would inherit above restrictions.

It was designed so a coach couldn’t escape the restrictions by jumping ship.

Thanks...but they did NOT have to "show cause" to hire him

Basically cheaters just lose a few points, but still win

And lswho off the hook, funny how that worked out

And Frank Wilson had to get out of BR for a period of time. McNeese just now has a rep for being a holding spot for LSU’s problems.

With unlimited pay via NIL. Add in UNC was caught for academic fraud et NOTHING ....there are no more penalties of any consequence in the NCAA

Without being able to recruit off campus, he was still able to bring in quality players through the NIL process. That can be done over the phone. Seems like it is not much of a deterrent

The product on the court for home games has been fine since the beginning of last season. Granted the number of non D1 games takes some of that luster off. Of course we have had to schedule some of those to reach the 14 home game Learfield requirement. People watching road games have seen more inconsistent play which affects home support. The win Friday night was our first true road victory since January. I am hopeful that playing the five road games against decent opponents has helped prepare us for the conference grind. When you do that regularly you somewhat get accustomed to the routine. A few more road wins may result in better home support. Next season we will have more D1 conference home games as it will be time for teams to return visits. Ticketlmaster, venue size, and concession price issues are factors as well in the support level.

Silver lining is that we have played well at home since the end of February 2022. I don’t think that can be argued as the results prove it. Product on the court for recent home games is not the reason for declining support. Just as the winning streak against SLC teams was eventually bound to end, the home court winning streak will also come to an end at some point. If the recent improvements continue, maybe that day can be pushed back.

It’s no mystery why the support is “declining.” People are fed up with meh basketball. They’re done with the Marlin era. They’re done with the propaganda style communication from the MBB program.

Regular Cajun basketball fans want to be relevant nationally. Consistently. That will never happen under this coach and we have 14 years of evidence for that.

I am thankful for your continued coverage of all things MBB on RP. I know it's probably hard with a lot of people at odds with the coaching regime (me included), but I always enjoy your posts.

The product has produced almost 20 straight wins in that fixed dome.

Against mostly lower tier level teams.

Five of the games in the home court winning streak have been against non D1 teams. That is still over a dozen straight against D1 competition at home. The players can’t control who they play against. They can only control their level of performance. Those efforts must be decent. I have not heard anyone who has attended a home game complain about what they saw since the end of the 21-22 season.
