I understand most people hate Bob marlin but to bash him at the expense of will wade is ____ing comical. You think will wade gives two shats about mcneese? He will prop them up for one year then leave at the drop of a strong ass offer from a major program. Then mcneese will go back to averaging 200 people a game. No thanks. Not to mention the belittling of our program from Willy. Y’all would forgive all that huh? Hilarious. You want fresh meat? Fine, but you get an up and comer who hasn’t shat all over our program any chance he gets. You don’t get someone who backstabbed his way to get the mcneese job only to make it a one year rehabilitation tour. It will always be ____ will wade. By bowl standards today, he would have had 4 bowl appearances in 9 years.

The recruiting advantage this would have provided would have possibly prevented the 3-win collapse at the end.

I will always appreciate what Coach Bustle did with what he had. I'll even say that everything we have now began during the Bustle era. But at the end of the day, it was time for something fresh and new.

During his entire tenure, Bob has won 2 regular season titles and 2 conference tournament titles [3 years total, one reg and tourney were the same year]. He is 0-2 in the NCAA Tournament and 0-1 in the NIT. Also, during his tenure here he has a losing record against teams in the Top 200 RPI or NET. Additionally, he has never won a game against a Top 100 RPI team in a Power Conference. All of these things are adequate evidence that Bob is not competitive with the top 60% of D-1 programs. That is unacceptable.

He's had 1 regular season title separate from the 2 NCAA appearances.

Also, SOS average since his first season is 201 out of 362 programs. It's the same formula every year:

-schedule a few Southland and SWAC teams with Louisiana Tech and some other small mid-major sprinkled in there (~6 wins)
-schedule 2 non-D1's (2 wins)
-finish somewhere in the middle of the conference (~9-10 wins)
-win at least 1 game in the SBC Tournament before bowing out (1 win)

And there's your 17-18 wins. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

If they would have stayed at 11 game seasons he would have had 2 winning seasons.

He might have had 4 winning seasons if bowl games then were what bowl games are today.

Much different landscape of the program back then compared to now. Back then, a 4-win season was considered progress after a 9-46 stretch. Today, we have a much larger assistant coaching budget plus massive facilities to recruit to (stadium renovation, indoor practice facility, APC). We have also had consistent winning seasons t build off of. The standard has been naturally raised since those years.

Yes, there is a lot of negativity on RP. I’ll admit, I contributed. At the same time, it’s not RP’s fault the leadership at UL has not changed as rapidly as the times. I fear a new stadium, same flaccid 6-6 effort still being accepted.

Agreed, but we have fans who think we should retain a coach based on just how many players graduate over wins and losses. Our incentives are a little different around here.
