In case anyone is curious, this is how my playoff would work this year....

MOTHER OF ALL PLAYOFFS 2023

RULES

-- All 10 conference champions get bid
-- Next 14 highest ranked schools get bid (used CFP poll/AP for rest)
-- Highest 8 seeds get first round bye
-- Seeds 9-24 begin First round action at higher seed's home field on 2nd week of December
-- Sweet 16 would play on 3rd week at higher seed's home field
-- Elite 8 would be New Year's Day. This would begin use of "CFP" bowls
-- Final 4 next week at 2 other "CFP" bowls
-- National Championship next week at a "CFP" bowl

#22 TROY at #11 OLE MISS
#21 SMU at #12 OKLAHOMA
#20 LIBERTY at #13 LSU

#18 NORTH CAROLINA STATE at #15 LOUISVILLE
#17 IOWA at #16 NOTRE DAME


SWEET 16

(Iowa/Notre Dame winner) at #1 MICHIGAN
(North Carolina State/Louisville winner) at #2 WASHINGTON
(Oregon State/Arizona winner) at #3 TEXAS
(Liberty/LSU winner) at #4 ALABAMA
(SMU/Oklahoma winner) at #5 FLORIDA STATE

They have been doing that at the FCS level and finding a true National Champion. It is the best way to do this. Can't say too many games. 4 teams is a joke. 12 teams is better but still not right.

Common criticism.

Under this model, assuming all favorites win...

- 8 schools would play 1 more than they do now
- 8 schools would play 2 more than they do now

If it’s OK for the 2 CFP finalists and the 2 FCS Playoff finalist to play 15 games right now, why would it be wrong for a few more to play 14?

If they go too far in to "spring semester" many would become ineligible, they couldn't have as many early enrollees from the new recruiting class, and all the xfer portalet slots would be taken and/or they would miss transfer windows and need to sit out at new school
