Now the tourism and food money request aside, how crazy of an idea is this for a D1 athletic program? I remember going to the Lakefront in 2014 for the SBC tournament, and there was a really nice contingent of GSU students who had done some kind of trip set up by the school, and Atlanta to NOLA is a lot farther than Lafayette to NOLA.

Maybe it’s just wishful thinking at this point, but something for the students like the alumni association does for short road games? Is that so unreasonable? The sentiment between admins and fans alike seems to be “why try” at this point. Getting harder and harder to stay engaged with this.

We're playing in a bowl game two hours away during the day in one of the funnest cities in the world. Maybe I've reached Grand Torino Clint Eastwood levels of ornery old man, but if the students need perks (hotel/food/drink vouchers) to attend then all hope is lost.

As a broke student, I didn't need much convincing to go spend a night in NOLA.

Like I said, the food and tourism money part is a little off base, but a little arranged trip (that students pay for obviously) with bus fare included and a block of rooms at a hotel in NOLA? Doenst seem like a big stretch to me for a university that wants its students to support.

Instead of an SBC championship banner in Lourdes, I think we need to just hang a huge WHY TRY? banner. Fans could tap it on the way in in a new tradition. We can even get a second one for the admins to pat on their way in to the suites.

Second, UL is not here to subsidize your weekend trip to New Orleans. Sorry, it doesn’t work that way.
It used to work that way, years ago Louisiana provided a bus for any student that wanted to travel to away games.

It, didn't even require a bowl game.

    What happened?

Although are any trips such as the one described ever truly at no cost to the entity setting it up?

On top of this, they give no incentive for us to go and show up and out. No package that includes a hotel for Friday night and some tourism/food money. No fan bus. Nothing to make it worth it.

Now, if they roll it out in the next couple days, that’ll be great. I understand that I may be jumping the gun in griping. But once again, the students are left to dry and then expected to turn around and support the university that actively hates them.
The Bowl isn't run by Martin Hall so stop complaining about ticket prices when you typically can get tickets for as cheap as $10 if you don't buy from the university.

Asking for the university to offer incentives for you (students) to attend the bowl in New Orleans shows how times have changed. When we were in school, every semester ended with a weekend in New Orleans. We didn't need Martin Hall to book a bus for us to make the trip.

Having said that, it usually takes a few days before the parties & possible bus trips are announced.

Students showed up to what... was it one or two games this year?

Now students want the university to drive them to the game, give discounted tickets, feed them, arrange sleeping accommodations, etc.

In the late 80s - early 90s, I went to most every home and away game (within a 12 hour drive) and NEVER expected anything from the university. Not only did I not expect anything, I didn't want the university anywhere near the massive amount of fun my friends and I had planned for the weekend.

Sometimes you need to make it happen for yourself and not expect others to do it for you.

    GEAUX CAJUNS!!

Not going to get anywhere with student participation if you think you're working with students from 20-30 years ago..

We either had a group in a car for a champaign trip to an away game, we also rented a 20 ft UHaul with 2 kegs a couple of sofas and
20 hardcore types...zoom actually witnessed the humanity..

Of course Mr. Fight Our Players feels the need to swoop in and save MH from the mean ole student posting ideas on RP.

OP, we can’t get these people to do the bare minimum so I wouldn’t waste my time expecting these aholes to lift a finger. I like that you’re brainstorming ways to generate interest and hope you share it with others. Maybe if you get a group of 10 or so, you guys can go through a travel agent (there’s a great one in town that plans group events for UL fans - Escape Reality Travel Agency) and get discounts, travel and vouchers.

    Keep fighting the fight.
