Kind of interesting, that 2020 bowl game, many Louisiana football fans were asking “who is UTSA?”
Then fast forward to 2021 and 2022, oh…they’re being ranked in the Top 25.
That program was definitely on an upward trajectory when we played them, they were just starting to hit their potential.
Liberty is another solid football program we beat in 2019 and 2021 in Football. Most people didn't realize those were solid wins as well.
I will also of course go back to the 2020 Iowa State win when non other than Brock Purdy was the QB.
Baw I miss those solid UL football days!
It could be any one of these bowls.
Myrtle Beach Bowl (Conway, SC)
R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl (New Orleans)
Avocados From Mexico Cure Bowl (Orlando)
Isleta New Mexico Bowl (Albuquerque, NM)
Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl (Frisco, TX)
RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl (Boca Raton, Fl)
Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl (Tampa, FL)
Birmingham Bowl (Birmingham, AL)
Camellia Bowl (Montgomery, AL)
Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl (if American goes to Hawaii Bowl) (Fort Worth, TX)
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (Boise, ID)
68 Ventures Bowl (Mobile, Al)
EasyPost Hawai'i Bowl (if American goes to Armed Forces Bowl) (Honolulu, HI)
SERVPRO First Responder Bowl (Dallas, TX)
Which is more important? Location or opponent?
Location for attendance probably. You want drivable. But opponent also matters
A less thought of question is timing. You would like to have a bowl before Christmas. The only one on my list that is after is First Responder which is on 26th. Being home for Christmas is a big deal, so I’d rather not go to that one.
I feel like after Christmas bowls have higher status and payout.
But drivable probably more important for having a good fan presence
Opponent 10x more important
Only the hardest core of fans will travel around Christmas time to a bowl game between two (likely) 6-6/7-5 teams..
On the other hand, going into next season with a win against a P5 team would help quite a bit
Lowest travel cost. The "payout" comes from the tickets that the school sells. Not seeing any presale options or anything at this point.
Also does every team get the same amount of extra bowl practice days or are they allowed to practice until the bowl? Ergo does later mean more practice?
Our athletic department usually taking bowl reservations by now.
