I’m talking about a SBC team going west for a bowl. I.e. New Mexico bowl. Idaho bowl. Hawaii bowl.

    Okay, hope not.

Ticket money varies by bowl. Some give you a certain percentage. Some give you a certain percentage over X no. of tickets sold.
A few years ago UConn recieved what was billed as a $13 million New Years Day bowl game.

They lost money because that was the value placed on the tickets, and they didn't sell many.

    Bowl payouts from SBC

    2018: $129,130
2019: $250,000 from conference and $67,270 in “bowl revenue”
    2020: $292,518
    2021: $223,016 plus $129,320 in “bowl revenue”

    Bowl expenses

    2018: $432,309
    2019: $340,515
    2020: $294,370
    2021: $323,921

The payouts go into a pot with CFP payouts. There is a bowl distribution from the conference that represents travel expenses (I did read that one conference has “mileage”, basically a few hundred dollars per mile, one way). Schools offset the rest of bowl expenses from their budget.

There is another conference distribution that isn’t considered bowl but may have bowl money in it. This includes a cut of the CFP money.

Their conference received the full payout. They had to pay off their ticket allotment, which was 2.9 mil.

So there was a $17 million payout to the conference. It was just distributed in a socialist manner so UCONN only saw $2.5 from the conference

This is what I thought was the case.

Trying to avoid that so turbine doesn’t rampage about going independent
