I don’t know what he said about that, but we know he crushed Robe’s dream of returning to the CWS when Robe was telling him he was trying to get back. The little intern spilled the beans and was quietly moved from the baseball program. Can’t recall her name, but it was all over RP.
No doubt about it. The intern was working for baseball coach Robe. She’d occasionally update the RP group on what was happening in baseball. She was very cute, and smart but naive.
Robe had the Fossil in his office and was expressing his goals of getting to the CWS often and maybe winning it. I can’t recall exactly what the Fossil told him but it basically was not something that the Fossil regarded as a good idea. The young intern spilled the beans on the Fossil leaving him with egg on his face. She was moved from baseball.
I’m sure she quickly learned that you can’t spill the beans on the head man. Can’t recall her name. People like Cajun Diehard, and Z Man might recall better. Also might have been on a different website that folded up leaving Ragin Pagin as the premier fan forum for the Cajuns. Would have been in 2001-3 shortly after the trip to Omaha.
I'm not trying to be a jerk but write this s*** down somewhere man.
UL seems to have a million of these stories about how the admin, or the AD, or the President, or LSU, or WHOEVER, did this or that to screw over the school, but it's always these memories floating around in the ether, unconfirmed and unreported.
Stories like these (president of the university actively working against a town and fan favorite baseball coach) are the EXACT type of thing you want to go public. Public backlash is the best - and probably only - way to stop complacency in the upper ranks of the university.
Example: University sends out memo to Greeks telling them no drinking, it goes viral, and within days the school is backpedaling and denying, even if only for one game.
If we need a blog website or something to get these Ragin Cajun tall tales down on paper, then I'll make the damn thing but it's you guys that seem to have the source material.
How does a conversation prevent a team from getting to omaha again? Not counting facilities/budget/etc, they were a few steps away again, so I doubt seriously that conversation stopped it. Could our budget have improved, of course, but did budget or a conversation years earlier stop cajuns from winning a super regional hosted in lafayette?
Imo besides Ragin Pagin and somewhat Ragin Review Podcast no one with a real reach can get this stuff out to the public in the masses. Local media is scared to death of this stuff because of the backlash they would receive
Dave did it during the Teague debacle and was suspended and eventually left.
Glad he is back but doubt he will tread those waters again.
This is why Ragin Review is so important right now, definitely picking up steam (especially on line) and filling in where local media is failing (or absent.)
I hope our (RP) resolution for 2024 would be "just the facts"!
Budget stopped us from being the best we could be and we were still able to have a lot of success under Robe in spite of and not because of Martin Hall. It's really amazing what some of our programs have accomplished.
That is why I have always thought we were a sleeping giant if only we had the proper resources. That started to happen and then it seems the rug has been pulled to a certain extent. Consecutive top 25 seasons for our football program (During Covid and beginning of NIL era was also horrible luck and a big contributor to the administration's reaction), pretty much the peak that we have seen and it did not bring immediate financial windfall so you are seeing the backlash from MH in my opinion.
With all that said I will also defend MH in saying that the Acadiana community and a way too large portion of our alumni takes UL for granted and does not appreciate what we have here in athletics so our administration would rather make sure we are the best we can be in academics while doing just enough to support athletics at times. We are a University who's mission is to educate first and foremost, sometimes that does not always benefit athletics when you are working within certain conditions & restraints in the state of Louisiana.
That's the unfortunate reality as I see it.
Local media backlash? They don't cover UL to begin with, and what they do cover is just B-roll bull****.
You act like we would lose our access to exclusive coverage and information.
If anything, the main risk is that any source providing information would apparently be banished to New Siberia
Wouldn't college athletics be better if money did not drive team success. why in the pros teams try to couple winning with managing spending and when they do they are lauded. Tampa rays, Oakland moneyball, etc. granted it is not foolproof, but those success stories are on the rise. Why is college different, is buying a title or getting the mothership to get you in to the playoff because you have the money really that enjoyable?
