    Default JMU Lawsuit

Law firm to represent James Madison in dispute

RICHMOND, Va. - The Virginia attorney general has hired a law firm to represent James Madison University regarding the NCAA's decision Wednesday not to grant the Dukes a waiver from a rule that prevents the unbeaten No. 18 football team from an automatic bowl berth.

In a three-page letter, the law firm Hunton Andrews Kurth LLC argues for James Madison's inclusion in bowl consideration based on its 10-0 record, No. 18 national ranking and unprecedented success in its twoyear process reclassifying from the Football Championship Subdivision to the Bowl Subdivision, the game's top tier.

The letter said the school is prepared to file a lawsuit ''asserting that the bowl ban violates the antitrust and, potentially, other laws.''

My biggest concern is JMU could very well be urinating on a forest fire backlash.

I understand their point. But they signed up and agreed.

It’s cute and all. But the attorney knows they have no shot. They’re doing this for their 15 minutes (gameday will obviously reference them tomorrow), alumni/school admiration and the hope it pays off in future clients.

Never let your 15 minutes flow under the bridge.

Maximize your 15 minutes, its better than a bowl game.

The only reason they have gone this far with it is because they are undefeated. If they were 6-6 they wouldn’t be trying it.

    Prob not one.

Their streak doesn't end at 10 though. Last loss was 4th to last game of '22 season v Louisville. Accounting the same way we did with our longest Win streak in FBS, JMU has pulled off the same - 13 game win streak. We've been in D1-A since '71, not exactly sure. JMU has done in two years of FBS membership which took us a half century.

    JMU 2023 sked:
    3 opponents already bowl eligibility.
    3 within 1 game
    1 within 2 games
    2 future opponents already elig.
    So 5 to 9.

They schedule better. Plus the East is a tougher division to play in. Not sure it’s actually tougher on field opponents, but game day atmospheres blow the west away.

Yes sir. This is a private university that gets 63% of its athletic budget from student fees. they are having no problem transitioning to the FBS because money is not a concern. Now I get it, they are undefeated and ranked so they want to be in a bowl and a possible playoff spot. But if they were losing this wouldn't even be discussed.
