They are best friends from their time at INdinana together. It's just a risk of joining that Bama staff after Saban left. Nothing will be good enough, just like Frank Solich at Nebraska. However, he will probably land another G5 HC if it goes sideways.

Leaving a HC job for a coordinator job will always be beta energy. Salary is irrelevant. Being THE guy tells me a lot more about a coach than being A guy. Many people can be an effective #2. Not many guys can be the head honcho.

Think it becomes more common at this level. HC salaries will max out around 2-3 million that's almost where P5 coordinators are starting.
