Normally North American Salt Company workers in Franklin, drive down this road to get to work everyday, but today they say they just can’t go any further.

One miner, Greg Bernard, said, "Most of the time we can settle our differences, but right now we have differences that we can't settle."

It’s contract signing time for Oneal Robertson and his coworkers, but he says they aren’t willing to sign.

Robertson said, "We feel like we aren't getting our fare share of what we deserve."

Workers say they’re on strike because of ongoing issues like unfair labor practices and now that it’s time to sign contracts, they want those issues addressed.

"We are coming out here in forces saying we disagree with a lot of things they are bringing up," Bernard said.

Robertson added, "This was our last resort, we were pushed into the corner, this is our only option, unless they come back to the table with us."

The workers say that they have tried to negotiate with the company, but they can’t seem to reach an agreement.

"We tried to go back to the table to negotiate with this company and they refused to," Robertson said.

Workers say they plan to be on strike for as long as it takes to get their message across.
