Isn't academics legally required to keep Lafayette in the name?

Miami of Ohio is 4,500 pop

Miami of Ohio isn't changing they've been around over 200 years.

Clemson has no name competitor.

Auburn is also unique.

Vermilion as the local schools name would, have been distintive.

Lafayette College has also been, around 200 years. And Lafayette Leopards logos regularly show up representing UL Lafayette.

There are also 20 other Lafayette communities in the US.

There is no legal stipulation on "Louisiana" as a nickname reference for academics.

Only on official letterheads and documentation.

Alabama refers to both athletics, and academics, but you won't find Alabama as a stand alone reference on their offical documentation and letter heads.
