What did LSU winning the National Championship accomplish the following year?

    Well, more than that.

The national championship isn’t meaningless. Bowls that UL play in are meaningless and many times, schools lose money on them.

Nothing, SBC Championships and CFP contention is what we should expect and strive for.

Dude, ALL of the Bowls outside of the NY6 are pretty meaningless for the schools that participate in them. Outside of extra practice time and some nice swag for the players, it's all rubbish.

I concur. Even the bowls that are NY6 which don’t help decide the national champions are meaningless.

I didn't say winning the national championship was meaningless.

I asked what did winning it "accomplish the following year?"

Well, Louisiana's meaningless bowl (your words) the following year accomplished more than LSU accomplished the year following their title.

The title has no coat tails.

Winning national championships bring in TV money to the school and conference, prestige, top level talent on the field, perceived top level coaches, big time sponsors with deep pockets to name a few things. And that’s every year, not just the year a national championship is won. THAT is what the advantages are of being a MAJOR college in football.
So what did UL accomplish more than LSU?

    Squandered assets 101.

So why did they ride the bench 12 months later.

I’m pretty sure UL played Minnesota this year, a mediocre P5 team. Who easily defeated UL. So there’s that.

    That is not trying.

Trying is 3 games minimum each year.
