Even the links you post state the EXACT SAME reason I posted:
"With increased visitors, media, and parking demands throughout the day, maintaining normal class schedules and operations is not possible."
Do you not understand their football stadium is on campus? They can't have the ESPN production van, the production crew, USM game day staff, etc. driving around looking for places to park when the students and teachers are all parked on campus?
...or should they have told everyone, "Just keep driving around campus looking for a parking spot until the students and teachers leave campus.
Once again:
USM has a stadium on campus. Football games are typically on Saturday when campus does not have students, teachers, and faculty all parked on campus.
Campus is packed Mon-Fri and also on Sat for football. Those are two completely different groups of people. How do you expect both groups to show up on Thursday and have parking for everyone in both groups?
Our stadium is off campus.
Had we released the EXACT SAME statement they used for cancelling class, it would have made absolutely zero sense. We had to come up with something different.
. . . Mr. Story, sad to say but you are fighting a losing battle with this group . . . they hate their university, they hate their football coach, they even hate their baseball coach from time to time and there is nothing you can do to convince them otherwise . . . thanks for trying, however . . .
Martin Hall does enough to cripple sports. I think we can all agree on that.
When they do one thing right, it still is not good enough for some folks.
They came up with a creative way to give the students off a half day on the day of our nationally televised football game and some people refuse to be happy about it.
Charge espn for parking, they should be able to afford it
Giving them off too early though just gives them time to get distracted and still miss the game. Need busses lined up to bring students and teachers directly from class to the game
Do you not understand that teams with on campus stadiums host football games on week nights every week without cancelling classes?
If we cancelled class for the football game, why did we give up on promoting it? If the game was clearly cancelled for football, why do a majority of our students not even realize there is a game tonight?
Meanwhile I’m seeing 15 minutes of sports news about the LSU women basketball game, getting rings and banners tonight.
