Thursday night games should be illegal.
Wow, cool new avatar
I'm not taking a side, just throwing this out there as I like to look at things from different angles.
Earlier this year (February 2023), some members of the student body were pushing for a "Mental Health Day" where the students were given a day off. That is documented in this article: https://thevermilion.net/2023/02/07/.s-and-faculty/
The students were granted the day off, but don't any of you find it odd that it just happened fall on the day of our Thursday night football game. It appears this was coordinated by someone at the university to coincide with our nationally televised football game.
I know Martin Hall isn't in love with athletics, but someone got the Mental Health Day to fall on the exact same day that it works out best for football. I don't think it is just a coincidence.
Last year, USM shut their campus down for the Thursday night game against us. People here praised USM for doing so and complained "UL would never do that". Well, we did it and now we have a lot of the same people complaining about it.
. . . don’t you know, as Jacob pointed out . . . we are negative here . . . Over and out . . .
and yes, USM used a different reason to shut down last year:
“On Thursday, October 27, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles football team takes on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns in a nationally televised matchup. With increased visitors, media, and parking demands throughout the day, maintaining normal class schedules and operations is not possible. All classes will be cancelled and will not meet in person or online." SOURCE: https://www.wdam.com/2022/09/28/thur.e-offices-usm/
We can't use that reason being our stadium is not on campus, so we have "Mental Health Day". There is even a "Mental Health Tailgate" scheduled for it tonight as well as it being called "Mental Health Football Game: University of Louisiana at Lafayette Football vs Southern Miss - Thursday Night Lights". Feel free to read about it here:

I know it is hard for some here to realize, but this was an effort by the university to support the game tonight.
1. They closed for the day. We closed for half.
2. They said, “we are doing this for FOOTBALL. This is so that you, the students, have all day to get ready to come out to the game. We said, “this is for mental health. Hope to see you at the game” a month before the game and then went silent.
Messaging matters. Approach matters. UL would never still applies. This bunch of academics in MH admitting athletics is important for the university and it is an important part of student life at a university? That ain’t happening. We are TOO SCARED to promote athletics. We have to shroud it in a social cause, so it doesn’t appear that we are taking academics too lightly. What they did and what we did are NOT the same.
They did not say it was for football or for the students to get ready for the game. If you have a source for that info, please share it.
The reason they stated was: With increased visitors, media, and parking demands throughout the day, maintaining normal class schedules and operations is not possible.

We can't use that reason with our stadium being off campus, so we came up with something else.
We'll all need a mental health day after USM beats our ass again
GEAUX CAJUNS !!!
