We have been wanting a rival with Southern Miss for decades. Well, we finally get it with with them joining our conference and hosting them at Cajun Field for the first time since 2001. And what does the university do to promote it? $10 tickets to faculty/staff. Most of this group barely knows we even have a football team.
Where was the push to Acadiana fully well knowing that this was a midweek game and attendance would be less than a Saturday? Once again, we blindside ourselves.
Last 10 times vs southern miss, southern miss has won, and 7 games were in Hattiesburg.
3 trips there for every one trip for them before they joined conf. ???
That goes along perfect with the fact that most students don’t even know we have a game tonight. Who’s in charge of promoting this kind of stuff?
Many high schools in the area have a playoff bye this week. Great opportunity to reach out to players and coaches and offer discounted tickets.
What is going on? Seriously, what is going on? Is our admin jaded towards the community? It feels like they're upset with the community for not supporting the teams, therefore have given up on outreach besides social media. It's almost like the stadium renovation is begrudgingly happening now.
What. Is. Going. On?
The powers that be are probably putting the plans thru the value engineering stage.
It probably is. It's like when I talk about "low hanging fruit." We have a volleyball tournament across the street with people coming in from all over the state. Our students have a half day of school. We are hosting a long awaited rival for the first time in over 20 years. The promo? $10 faculty tickets and Crickets.
Where's the discounted tickets to the majority of Acadiana who feel outpriced? Where is the promotion to allow parking inside the stadium when it's going to look like a dessert? Where are the announcements to the students all over campus to prepare for the game after their classes end at noon today?
All of this stuff should not take more than a few hours to plan. Instead, we once again punt.
