Stating facts isn’t talking down. I don’t root against the program, I simply do not support it.
I have expectations, maybe you should as well. My expectations are to make the NCAA tournament every year. Bob Marlin has accomplished that 2 times in 13 years. So attendance and his tournament birth average in his tenure are about the same.
I expect every major sport to compete for SBC Titles annually. It shouldn’t be a rarity. If we aren’t there are two issues, lack of institutional support for that sport, or poor coaching. It’s that simple.
I don’t support poor coaching.
Very difficult to make the NCAA tournament EVERY year. Some blue blood programs don't do that. Now expecting to challenge for a championship most years is very reasonable. Generally being in the top 4 in the league 90 percent of the time indicates you are doing that. Granted we have not done that consistently enough. Perhaps this season we can have back to back strong finishes. We may have rebounding issues and inside scoring problems. However the defense we have seen to date from the squad indicates it is possible.
For being the defending champs, the turnout was terrible for opening night.
Take a look at other mid major opening night attendances

In 2023–24, a total of 362 schools (including those transitioning from a lower NCAA division to Division I) will play men's basketball in 32 Division I basketball conferences. All of these schools also sponsor women's basketball except The Citadel and VMI, two military colleges that were all-male until the 1990s and remain overwhelmingly male today.
The conferences for 2023–24 are

. . . So, every year we are expected to win our conference tournament or to be in the field of 36 granted a bid . . . looks more like somebody who just doesn’t like our coach than rational thinking . . .
We won the sun belt in 00 and had the majority of the people come back the next year. We opened against Ohio state in the dome. I believe Michael redd was on that team. We didn’t have more than 3K. The point is that nobody gives a crap about basketball until football is over with.
