Announced Wednesday, it includes a $250 million Bipartisan Infrastructure Law grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, coupled with a $250 million match from state partners. ……Years ago I wondered why we couldn’t build an Oil Museum with monies coming from oil countries, the feds, state, and oil companies…..have an oil bowl game and generate funds for our athletics with the rental of properties…..well now I say we need A temporary tax like we did for the airport to finish our total plans of stadium and student participation for meals etc with dining area as partof the stadium…..it was posted on here about communities backing athletics in their town…..put it on a ballot and find out who will back OUR SCHOOL! Why not do it? All a vote can do would be to get turned down….btw, the same should be done for student fees….maybe rearrange some without needs at the present! I don’t know how this is done but can some with knowledge of government works please contribute!

THIS is a great idea! UL brings so much revenue to Lafayette and Louisiana. Athletics has the potential to generate even more funds for the area. I would start with the most likely to get approved a modest student fee, temporary tax, or something else to build athletic facilities.

Yes, but why let current students decide on what future students will pay? Do students vote on all other tuition and fees? Seems to me it is a university decision on what to charge that is in the overall best interests of the university. Adding $300 to tuition and fees is not a significant increase when tuition and fees are low already. When you consider the number of football, basketball (men & women), baseball, softball, tennis and track & field games, That is just a couple of dollars per event, a huge bargain by any measure. 19,000 students X $300 = $5,700,000 per semester or $11,400,000 plus possible summer school fees. That would be huge for athletics. Right now it is free, so they take it or leave it. Pay for it and it creates value.

You are out of touch if you think that stands true. I've been down this road for a while now with my kids and it simply isn't true any longer. Keep in mind that fees exceed tuition cost and TOPS doesn't cover fees. Out of pocket for UL is comparable to many others at this stage if you are comparing in-state cost.

Tuition and fees are a shell game at this point.

    The fees defee the purpose.

I believe we were close to $200M in research before this. This is what helped us get R1 rating. Can this be added to our research budget putting UL closer to $300M.

It’s spread out over time. But $300 ain’t a bad number. And wait. More coming. In a few years the monkeys are gonna be King Kongs. And Engineering, nursing and a few others have fuses lit. It’s gonna be fun.
Plus academic recruiting will get much better with three new academic buildings in the pipeline. I am really excited about our academic future. I’d feel better if we had won the football game tonight. So far neither offensive, defensive or special team coaches are getting tenure.

This should certainly boost our research funding totals next year:
