Thread: What is the consensus on the new field turf at the Tigue?

I don't like it. It's not baseball and it was done for purely economic reasons. I also think it's going to be a disadvantage in recruiting. Players prefer grass.

Try standing on that crap in the warm months. The temp radiating off that field to about mid thigh is a minimum of about 10 degrees hotter. These kids are out on that baseball field during some pretty hot months out of season too.

I agree, it is just not the same. Baseball was meant to be played on grass!! I think the "dirt" part on infield just does not look right. I was very disappointed when we decided to put turf down.

The filler is a neutral color for that very reason. Athletes shouldn't have to spend so much time keeping up a natural field. Again, its not a problem for Tulane, USA or Troy.

Just like 4pm kickoff times arent a problem for school A, B and C. Stop the spin. That turf is garbage.

Couldnt come up with with more than three baseball programs trying to save money by installing that crap?

Only in Lafayette. I seriously doubt there is another school with more excuses than Lafayette/UL for people not attending football games.

Try working on the field all day after a downpour so that you can get the game that night in. You can't have it both ways. The turf makes for less rainouts, plus I'd imagine the players enjoy being able to sleep rather than having to show up at the field at 5am to pull the tarp off on a gameday.

I like grass and dirt too but turf is easier for the team and the staff.

Just a few more programs saving money with it:

    Minnesota Twins
    Toronto Blue Jays
    Tampa Bay Devil Rays
    Tokyo Giants
    Yokohama Bay Stars
    University of Cincinnati
    Columbia University
    Cornell University
    University of Illinois
    Kansas State University
    Kent State University
    University of Louisville
    University of Michigan
    University of Minnesota
    Naval Academy
    Oregon State University
    University of Texas
    Washington State University
    University of Washington
    Tulane

I've heard quite a bit about "that effn tarp". I don't remember the tarp as part of the recruiting process.

I say tear it up and send it back. I've tried to adjust to it throughout the season, but I can't. Obviously it's cheaper. Who knows, when they renovate the Tigue they may even redo the brick interior with plastic bricks like Tulane...that saved a fortune. It's wishful thinking, but I pray that one day they'll at least bring back dirt for the infield. Shreds of rubber flying after a big play just isn't the same, and the bubble gum infused into the turf is killing my shoes.
