That clause is in all Big10 revenue sharing contracts. Wisconsin lost a player to Miami last year with the same contract template used. Getting to the point where if the player doesn't have to abide by the contract then schools will start bringing in players with contracts/promises then not paying them. Oh wait, that's already happening at schools (Houston).

And the Wisconsin kid is still playing. The contracts are not pay for play, they are media contracts. It's sad, but it doesn't matter what the kid signs, they can leave at any point and probably with the bag of money.

Nothing wrong with going after a payday and opportunity we have yet to provide here at UL.

Outside of money, the kid had an opportunity to play for a seasoned offensive head coach with a long history of success, a young OC in Slade Neagle (more local ties than most know), reside in downtown Houston, and play in the Big 12.

UL can't compete with those options.

Unfortunately, the kid could not beat out the local Houston area kid who was arguably the #1 HS QB prospect in the country who transferred in from Texas A&M and had Houston ranked as a Top 20 team.

I don't see the problem? The kid gets one more opportunity to seek starter reps before moving on with his life.

Best of luck to Zeon and enjoyed the highlights of him as a Cajun. Always rooting for the kid.

If he was still that good, and didnt start ONLY cause someone better than him transferred in....why didnt any other P4's or G5, G6, or DO double G bring him in? An opportunity doesn't mean squat. He was the starter here. Now where is he?

I wouldn't say that, but reality is he would have likely kept starting here and hopefully improving, thus bettering his chances. I know we can't offer the money or the opportunity to start at a P4 program, but if the player rides the bench two seasons then transfers to a SWAC program, is he that much better off in the long run? Maybe, if he figured he wasn't going pro anyway and decided he wanted to take the extra money and stash it a retirement fund or use it to pay for grad school.

I can understand taking the gamble, though. He'd have more easily available eyes on him playing for a P4 in the Houston area than a G6 in the Lafayette area, but then there's the downside if it doesn't work out.

Also...what percentage of his potential NIL, no matter how small, at UL was going to be taken off the top by some "helper" vs. having Brandon Shelvin and Amy Jones market him for a percentage to UofH?

That "more eyes seeing him at a bigger school" doesn't hold water. If hes good, they see you. Just watch any NFL game and listen to the schools they came from. Its a pretty diverse level of schools they played for.
