And now states are passing legislation where NIL will be non taxable income. I’m sure “casual fans” are running with open arms to embrace this while they make daily decisions how to spend their discretionary income.
I’m sure a class action suit will come where the claim will be along the line of not taught simple life skills. The return of the phrase “dumb jock” is coming.
Why didnt he go by "neon zeon"
Some of our legislators tried that bill last session, but tabled it. I’m sure with Huey P Landry wanting to make sure LSU and Kiffin are successful so he can use it as a talking point in re-election and a possible 2028 or 2032 Prez Primary run, he’ll endorse that legislation next session.
____ing pitiful. Either make ALL college students’ earnings exempt from state income tax, or tax all of them. This special carve out for folks who already get free tuition, food, books and housing is embarrassing.
Nothing wrong with going after a payday and opportunity we have yet to provide here at UL.
Outside of money, the kid had an opportunity to play for a seasoned offensive head coach with a long history of success, a young OC in Slade Neagle (more local ties than most know), reside in downtown Houston, and play in the Big 12.
UL can't compete with those options.
Unfortunately, the kid could not beat out the local Houston area kid who was arguably the #1 HS QB prospect in the country who transferred in from Texas A&M and had Houston ranked as a Top 20 team.
I don't see the problem? The kid gets one more opportunity to seek starter reps before moving on with his life.
Best of luck to Zeon and enjoyed the highlights of him as a Cajun. Always rooting for the kid.
The reality. Chriss isn’t playing in the NFL.

I wouldn't say that, but reality is he would have likely kept starting here and hopefully improving, thus bettering his chances. I know we can't offer the money or the opportunity to start at a P4 program, but if the player rides the bench two seasons then transfers to a SWAC program, is he that much better off in the long run? Maybe, if he figured he wasn't going pro anyway and decided he wanted to take the extra money and stash it a retirement fund or use it to pay for grad school.
I can understand taking the gamble, though. He'd have more easily available eyes on him playing for a P4 in the Houston area than a G6 in the Lafayette area, but then there's the downside if it doesn't work out.
Also...what percentage of his potential NIL, no matter how small, at UL was going to be taken off the top by some "helper" vs. having Brandon Shelvin and Amy Jones market him for a percentage to UofH?
