Triggered? No. Just quick to set you straight for calling UL fans weird or riddled with self esteem issues. Other people’s insecurities and obsessions created this situation. Not ours. Spin that narrative elsewhere to people who are ignorant enough to buy it.

Thank you for confirming your ignorance on the situation.

    It was weird.

Then an assigned (LSU educated) judge decided that while there's no law that says you (UL System) can't change a schools name, there's no law that says you can, therefore you can't.

    It was weird.
Like I said, I don't claim to know the whole history of it, and it's very possible that UL has a legitimate dispute as to what its name should be.

But that doesn't answer my question as to why it still matters so much to UL fans today, forty years later.

Has the wrong been corrected…forty years later?

Why are you concerned with why other people care about it? Isn’t that weird using your own logic?

I wasn't even the one who made it a big deal. I was making a totally independent point and used the name issue (as well as other issues) as an example. But it apparently struck some sort of nerve.

. . . it is truly amazing the number here who can't see the difference between something being weird and being called weird . . . that characteristic is way short of weird on my list . . .

Part of the perpetuation was this. After the name change the school put out a guideline page stating We are not ULL, do not call us ULL, call us by such and such prefered branding.

Certain newspapers in the state out of spite started dogmaticly calling the school ULL.

When this "know your place" message is prevalant, it is not so weird for fans to react and get in a mode of sorts.

. . . so why all the trigger over the throwback use of SLI and USL . . . this has not a darn thing to do with ULL . . .

It's always perfectly reasonable for people to get upset about some sort of injustice. I get that. The question is whether the response is proportionate.

Also, some people in here need to take a lesson from Turbine about how to have a level headed discussion.

Well, my USL stuff all went to collectors and/or donated, while anything I had with Lafayette or ULL went to the garbage except for one thing.

I kept the black baseball hat that years ago started the push to UL…had UL on the front, Lafayette on the back strap. Remember a meltdown started in some areas of the state over it.
