Nationals are hungry to get on board with a Louisiana.
It can't be for just 1/3 of the year for it to happen. It will never happen nationally if its football and forget it.
We are talking program here (your term) and acceptance requires performance 3/3 of the year.
Football fall/winter
Basketball winter/spring
Baseball spring/summer.
A single, sport can in rare instances propel an overall program to national acceptance but they need to be incredibly dominate to pull it off (Connecticut WBB) but that is super rare.
Softball is doing its part Big Time, but it needs year round, support (from the rest of the program) to really land on the national stage.
Basically you cant let the media forget about you for 9 months, or even 6 months out of the year, not seeing your name for 3 months is pushing it.
If "Louisiana" keeps, popping up you will "convince nationals" and if you convince nationals, you will convince locals.
Can downtown Lafayette donate 3 or 4 Cypress trees to give Swamp Circle instant ambiance?
It would take thought and effort, but the way those mature Cypress trees on Jefferson Street are contained (in what is basically a cement bucket) I bet they could be transplanted right into Swamp Cirle.
ESPN Game Day here we come.
They've shown it over and over by adopting what they call cinderella teams and consistent winners.
Football: Boise State
Basketball: Gonzaga
Baseball: 2008 Fresno State, 2023 Oral Robert's
Those programs dont stick though because they get zero mention the remaining 9 months out of the year.
. . . so apparently in the last 15 years or so, you and others here believe that only a handful of teams play major college football and it is only played when those teams play each other . . . Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Clemson, Florida St, Ohio St, Florida . . . and in many instances, not even the national championship game is major college football . . .

This is the perfect post.
Why do UL fans care so much about what other people think about them? They don't want to be seen as LSU's little brother or as some small irrelevant school, so in response, they constantly compare themselves to larger or more successful programs...which is EXACTLY what little brothers do.
Much (though not all) of UL's reputation is self-inflicted. Quit worrying about impressing other people, and start trying to impress your own people. The rest will fall into place.
?? What are you talking about?. . . so apparently in the last 15 years or so, you believe that only a handful of teams play major college football and it is only played when those teams play each other
TCU went to national championship in football, world series in baseball, and lost by 3 in 2nd round of March madness.. Thats major league sports
Their fans are going into the upcoming season thinking they will vie for a national championship in more than one sport
