The Police Jury now has a new formula for distributing road maintenance funds which will benefit all towns in Vermilion Parish.
In the past, government officials in Kaplan, Abbeville, Gueydan and Erath had to beg and scratch for more money from the state government in order to repair their city roads because police jurors hardly had extra money to repair roads in towns and cities.
The old formula calculated the amount of rural road miles in a juror’s district and distributed a certain amount of money based on rural miles and not city miles.
