In Napier's first year, 2018, UL was 7-7 (5-3 in conference), lost its first conference game to Coastal Carolina at home, then went on to win the Western Division and lost to App State for the conference championship, then lost to Tulane is a bowl game.
In Dez's first year, 2022, UL went 6-7 (4-4 in conference) and lost to Houston in a bowl game. In 2021, Dez became head coach and won a bowl game vs. Marshall, despite losing half the coaching staff and key starters. So, at the end of Dez's first coaching year, he was 7-7, same as Napier.
In Napier's 2nd year, 2019, UL went 11-3 (7-1) losing only to App State and Miss State, won the Western Division and lost a second time to App State for the conference championship, then beat Miami (Ohio) in a bowl game.
In Dez's 2nd year, 2023, UL half way thru the season is 4-2 and UL lost its first conference game to ODU on the road, very similar to what Napier did. Can UL win out and win the Western Division, conference championship and a bowl game? He made a major statement winning in the last quarter vs. a good Texas State team.
The similarities are eerie. 5 of the 7 teams in the West have only 1 loss and UL is among them. A lot of games to be played out, but I like UL's chances to win the West and possibly host a conference championship game.
Townsquare Media and clickbait articles go hand in hand. Locally in Lafayette, with the exception of a Joe Cunningham article every now and then, maybe a Kevin Foote if he still writes for them time to time (?), all Lafayette Townsquare articles (and the Lake Charles ones too) are clickbait.
Zero real effort put forth. Just some BS headline.
I have a feeling the program, and even us as fans, will be questioning the (what if) at the end of this season in regards to the ODU game.
Probably start with what if the defense didn’t allow a QB to complete 68% of his passes for 13 yards per attempt with 4 TDs and 0 INTs.
. . . we surely know how to dig in order to maintain a culture of objection here . . . things are going well, let’s try and keep a positive vibe at least until something bad happens again . . . ODU is finished . . . just a thought . . .
. . . over 7.5 here . . . need at least a second half as good as the first . . . man if they could have won that . . .
According to warrennolan.com supposed to finish the season with a strength of schedule of 126 out of 133. Currently ranked 118.
Expectations shouldn’t have been low to begin with.
