Schools with the most history and tradition have marching bands that have played the same things since the 50s,60s,70s and 80s. The answer is not to change every other year what you are doing to grow tradition. Our problem here is lack of tradition and consistency in building tradition.

A few bands that come to mind that have built tradition and even I from a far know what they play are USC, Noter Dame, Texas, Michigan, Tx A&M, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, LSU….. It’s not about changing what you do every other year, its building on your long time traditions and customs that makes you successful. We lack that big time here because we always changing.

Something real short musically with go UL at the end after EVERY play. Know it would cut greatly into cartwheel and handstand times, but that’s what a cheerleader should do.

The post above give great examples of this; SLI, USL, ULL, UL has failed miserably on something that cost nothing but time.

My son and I watched 1st quarter from upper deck last Saturday. Even the longer songs that the band played got zero reaction from the student section. Honestly I couldn't even tell you what songs they were...
If you want reaction from the students, need to play the fight song and spell out C-A-J-U-N-S at the end. The whole stadium would participate. That is a big element missing at our games, student and fan interaction.

RESPECT should only be played where Aretha performed.

    E. K. L.

    ... Out of respect.

If we are trying to establish traditions, this is the way you do it.

If you play the song and no one cares well it just goes away.

If it catches on then you do it over and over and over time it becomes a tradition !

    Play it see what happens

How did Respect become a theme song for USL?

The reasons why alot of traditions come from the 60’s and 70’s it became popular around that time so they kept doing it and now it’s a tradition.

Nothing wrong with establishing new traditions

GATA for example came from a coach at GS which means Get After That _____. They did it year after year and became a tradition.
