Ok. I can totally get behind a change of direction with the band.....this board has been throwing out every idea to make the game day environment fun.....well a band closer to that of Southern or Grambling band would be a big win. We don't even need the same level on on field halftime performance, just the song selection and energy they give in the stands will work....how we make it happen? Students would love it, relate to it.

Would love to be a fly on the wall in Martin Hall for that conversation..

"We saw a video of the players in the locker room and they really love that Set That S*** Off song. We got to thinking maybe it's time for the Pride of Acadiana to play more songs like that! Move closer to the bands at HBCUs...."

For the record I think it's an idea worth dipping a toe into. See if you can get a well-timed 1-minute song that gets the student section to just bounce a little bit.....

Okay we talking about 1 song. I ain’t saying that we become a Southern or Grambling that style is unique to them.

1 song that the team was dancing to, that you can play is a marching band is one thing, but transforming your band into a band like Southern or Grambling is quite another.

To me there is nothing wrong with playing 2 or 3 stand tunes that come from the newer generation, to get the crowd involved. I wouldn’t make it any more then that .

Agree 100% .. just thought it would be hilarious to hear someone make that pitch to the old guys

My son and I watched 1st quarter from upper deck last Saturday. Even the longer songs that the band played got zero reaction from the student section. Honestly I couldn't even tell you what songs they were...

There is a new director of bands. I was hoping for an improved band. Unfortunately, so far, nothing has changed. The band is just very lazy, playing the same eight bars of the same songs after each down. The songs create ear worms that I just can't get out of my head. I'm seriously considering wearing earplugs, so I don't have to listen to them. For me, it's a huge part of what makes for a poor in-game experience.

If you want a band to succeed, execute, excel and be a game changer... you can’t have them competing or alternating with piped in music.

The marching band director is the associate director of bands. As far as it still sounding the same, he got to UL in late June. Didn’t have much time to make changes. He will have a more disciplined group in the future, it will just take him a bit of time

Tell the woodwinds to stay at Angelle or hand them brass horns. Blow your hearts out, this ain't a symphony orchestra where perfection is needed. We need LOUD

The band needs something interactive between plays.

Maybe collaborate with the gymnasts….errrr cheerleaders.

And kill the PA music. It’s a college game, not the pros.
