    Regardless of who performed it first, the band started playing it in the late 60's and hasn't stopped since. When I was in the band from the fall of 1972 to the spring of 1976 we played Respect EVERY time we were at a sporting event. At football games the student section would chant "we want respect....we want respect" until we played it.

    And that my friend is how traditions get started. Organically not forced.

    I used to organize the party in the super dome for the Tulane game. Can’t tell you how frustrating it is to work with the alumni association. Nice people, but we don’t do that here on everything. I guess the band director is told that too.

    You organized THE best pre-game and post-game tailgating party vs. Tulane in the Superdome. I believe that was in 1995. We beat Tulane 32-28 scoring a TD on a 4th & 4 to win the game.
