Some of y’all don’t want the truth. I don’t have the numbers, but I’d be willing to bet that the demographics of our fanbase has a huge gap in it.
50% is older than 65.
30% is older than 50.
10% is the students.
<10% are 25-45yo.
Our attendance problem is generational. To fix it will take 10-20 years. It’s not a quick process.
Martin Hall does not seem to understand how to get this done though.
Brought my 4 year old to his first game yesterday. He enjoyed the team's running out, the fireworks, etc. He made it about halfway thru the 1st quarter before getting bored.
The PA guy is not the worst but he says some stuff that has zero self-awareness. "OK Cajuns fans we're on nationalllll teee veee today! So let's show em what 15 thousand people sound like!"
The guy who plays music inside the stadium needs a new job. That is the most important job on GameDay and he just isn't good enough. A dozen times the stadium music and band played over each other. Another dozen times he starts a song for 3rd down defense, but starts it as the other team breaks the huddle.. so you get a couple seconds of music then it abruptly cuts off. Countless times there was just dead air out there, or they are making announcements about volleyball games or some crap
Every time there's a play under review, we look up at big screen ... no replay. Is that common anywhere else in D1?
We eventually went over to the hill. My son had the time of his life and mom and dad stood at the top, sippin beers, talking to friends and watching football. Overall a fun day..
Cost well over $100 in the end - even after being gifted two tickets by a passerby - so won't be happening often
As an academic institution we often lead the way for the rest of the state. Innovative or progressive ways to continue to improve.
Yet when it comes to athletics we are always in a “just enough” phase. The stadium expansion and modernizations that come with that can’t get here soon enough.
Let's talk about the crowd. Rather than blame everyone why don't we each try to bring one or two new fans each game so they can experience CF and maybe they will come back and bring new friends it worked during the Hud days. As far as the music it won't please everyone for the old timers at least you have POA still playing music from the 70/80's let them play what they want otherwise it will be just us 2500 old timers sitting in the stands. As far as students go what is the university doing to make them go to games. Some kids go to college for an education and are not into sports. If the University won't do anything about attendance, I say let's take it into our own hands and bring a friend. How many people on here complain about attendance but don't attend the games?
It’s not uniforms, it’s not handing out free stuff, it’s not players.
It all has to do with the fact that the regular fans want to be part of the university, it isn’t the way the stadium looks or renovation. Even if we redid the stadium it still won’t help attendance.
When you out price the regular fan and take away tailgating, and only cater to the big money average joe does not feel he is a part anymore.
We have to have a grass roots campaign to get people to the game.
Administration is dumb if thinking that if we redid the stadium we will all of a sudden get 25k a game is a ignorant way of thinking !
Also Lafayette is a Blue Collar town. If you think average joe is going to all 5 home games that isn’t going to happen.
At best they may make 2 or 3 games. People have to work and job comes before football.
So let’s look at it a different way, if I was going to show up for one game what do I expect ?
4000 dollars for a season ticket, RCAF donation, parking pass, and tailgate spot? No sir!
Not everyone works M-F working 8-4 with weekends off? If you live in New Iberia, Crowley, Rayne etc. what do y’all think these people do to earn a living ?
Took the kids. Sat on the hill most of the game. The kids had a good time. I was a mess of anxiety because it was such a critical game and we were not playing well.
I was also angry at the lack of attendance even though I keep trying to ignore it.
I don’t know what to say anymore. The weather was PERFECT. Big game. Only FBS game in Louisiana at that time. ESPNU. Military appreciation. And that’s what shows up? It’s not like we’re losing.
I know we had some crowds less than that for the Napier years, but I just had a little optimism for yesterday.
Look, this is not the only reason, but the RR guys said it and I saw it on social media from a few people. Ticketmaster fees turning people off and I get it. I had to comment on a few posts from folks that were interested in going but didn’t want to pay the outrageous fees. Told them to buy at the game or from the Dome.
