I cannot understand a coach getting incentives for making a bowl game when only requires a 6-6 record. Over half the FBS teams qualify. Meh gets paid.

Incentivize 7+regular season wins on a gradual scale for starters.

That would require eliminating several bowl games in doing so, which I would support. Meaningless games with no attendance and players opting out are a waste and a disincentive.

Bowls can stay like they are. Point is 6-6, and by extension neither is 6-7 is nothing special. No financial reward to coaches for being 6-7, literally and figuratively.

I don't really agree. We didn't beat any, what I would call, good teams and lost by a ton in the Championship game. It was something to build on for sure, but then we crashed.
