My favorite caller was Paul Guidroz from Bureaux Bridge. He called Jay one afternoon to talk about baseball. All of a sudden Paul says "I got to go" and hangs up. He calls back a little later and continues the conversation. At the end of the call Jay asks "what did he buy"? Paul says "what"? Jay says "when you called earlier you had to go, what did he buy"? Paul says " oh...a fifth of Jack Daniels and 5 dollars of gas". Priceless and only on local talk radio

    Loved his calls.

At one point (if I recall) KPEL was going to start a scholarship in his name.

To their credit they referred to the Cajuns as UL and interviewed Acadiana head football coach Scott McCullough. Oh for the good ole days with Jay and Stevie P and Foote (still have him but on another station). Hopefully they continue to respect our name at least and provide some Cajun sports coverage.
Tim is good people and a fine broadcaster. He’s a former sports director at KTBS-TV and has been doing his radio show for several years now. His home station, KWKH, is a Townsquare Media station, which explains why his show is on KPEL-AM.

Tim will respect UL and its fanbase. Give him a shot. I think he’ll grow in you.

Full disclosure: Tim is a regular on my prep football show. The link to this week’s episode will be posted in a separate thread shortly.

1420 needs to update the lineup on their website. They still have local programing on in the morning and that's not been the case for weeks.

I gave the Shreveport show a chance this morning. Listened to a Tommy Bowden interview then they had the TSAB update. That was it for me. I won't turn on 103.7 anymore, either.

The lack of local programing like we used to have pre covid has been well discussed and it is apparently not coming back. In fact, I was surprised that Dave returned and happy he got 3 hours in the afternoon. I listen to him.

I still miss the local programming in the morning. I guess stations have to hit the easy button when terrestrial radio is quickly going the way of the dodo. I think someone stated that the morning shows were averaging like 200 listeners? Wow. Not really reaching anyone.

The podcasts have become my drive time listening.

It does irk me a bit that "local" radio is more like tsab radio, but no one is listening so does it really matter?

Kevin Foote has plenty of Cajuns coverage on his show. 9 to 11 on weekdays on 103.7 FM. Coach Dez does respect Kevin as a journalist by the way. Yes, he also discusses Saints and Astros. However his LSU coverage is not over the top. As he is the Advocate beat writer for the Cajuns, he does elaborate on his Cajun articles.

Wish Foote would be on during the morning commute. It's rare that I (and probably most) can tune in from 9 through 11.

Tim should include a regular UL segment each week if he’s broadcasting in Lafayette.

I'm old enough to remember Jay talking lots of Cajuns athletics on 1420 and some of yall did not like how he did it. There are not a lot of choices anymore, unfortunately.

I'll listen to Foote on the On Demand deal on the Game website every now and again. I get that it's still giving them clicks, but feels wrong turning the dial to 103.7.
