Exactly, and the old issues and old ideas don't work and haven't been fixed, if anything they've gotten worse. Nothing will change (dramatically) with UL attendence until they somehow fix the in-game experience. What they're doing now and have been doing has proven not to work. Just ask the 20,000 who show up every home game dressed as seats....
It really isn't though..
As others have said, beating Minnesota on the road is not going to suddenly have casuals saying: "dang they beat Minnesota!? Who they play this week!? Oh Texas State.. sweet lemme drop $100 on tickets for my family.. wonder if I know anyone who still has a tailgate spot......"
Now if they beat Minnesota they'll be on the news and in people's conversations, and THATS when you drop the "yeah and they're offering cheap tickets this weekend and a concert at CF before the game"
There's an elementary school in Broussard/Youngsville (Martial Billeaud) that is teaching their entire school of kids the UL fight song for Paint the Town Red homecoming event. Principal is a big UL fan. Need more of that in all of our local schools.
We need to be careful with "outside the stadium promotions" for a 3pm kickoff. It will be too enticing for some to remain outside.
My ideas?
This should a nuclear powered Fan appreciation event.
Focus on cheap tickets, cheap parking and cheap food.
"Family" the crap out of this game. Gear everything towards the kids.
As many free giveaways as possible. Should be one huge giveaway at Halftime.
Do not hassle anyone for anything.
This is the mistake that the school keeps making, in my opinion...
Like it or not, G5 football is low stakes to most people. To casual fans, Texas State might as well be another FCS game. If you have to explain to someone WHY a match up us important, then those tickets should be $12-15
But again, selling 25k at $12.50 is STILL more money than selling 15k at $20.... and they're INSIDE THE STADIUM.. buying beers, buying food, etc.
