A train track divides the campus in two. Is that the separation they're always talking about?
UL really hasn't grown since the 80s. Back then we were comparable to many SEC schools and others like Central Fla, UAB, UNT etc. were barely on the map back then.
Now most those places have blown past us. My Aggie dad was telling me the other day TAMU now has over 70K students. What happened?
Back in 80s & 90s, because of open admissions, we let anyone in. Very big fall class. Lots of partying. Very small spring due to failure rate.
Dorms trashed. Way too many remedial courses. 30% retention rate. When we finally got Doc A to fight for admission standards, it resulted in smaller numbers but much higher retention and was first step to R1. We are smaller in Fall numbers. Not so much in Spring.
Plus we are funded at a higher level per full time student. We’ll get another bump next year with our PhD numbers.
But it was fun watching all the kids party.
