After a really good performance over the weekend at the Youngsville tournament, the UL men face some much stiffer competition this weekend in Lake Charles at the 2nd Annual Collegiate Invitational at Lake Charles Racket Club. Last week we faced a JUCO (Tyler), Lamar and Nicholls, this week the competition will be UTSA, UL, USM, Rice, and USA. Most of these 4 teams are familiar with being in and around the Top 75 every year. Rice has been down the last few years but has a history of being a very good team, USA and UTSA are always competitive.
This will be a really good gauge of where this young team is this early in the Fall season before they start preparing for the Spring.
Because of the competition last week and the format, the Cajuns had a chance to rest some of their top players while still getting some of the guys who are expected to contribute some action. It appears that Vasil Dimitrov and William Ribero, both expected to contribute this year, were the main guys, but we got Grant and Mason Landreth some action as well, and it was nice to see that they got to play doubles together. The Cajuns had some challenges, they seemed to be able to pull out a number of quality wins. I would assume this weekend we will see more action from some of the top names on the team, depending on where they are coming back from injury. I am hoping Giminez and Gonzales as well as Postea will get a chance to get back in action.
