Depending on how ZC plays these next 4-6 weeks, BW may come back as QB2. Des may have a very big decision to make at that time. Thoughts?
A couple of things concerning our current QB situation after reading through the threads today.
Zeon is very talented, that's why he was our highest rated recruit. The reason Ben Wooldridge was playing over him is understandable for people that have been around football in one manner or another. Ben has been playing college football for 6 years now, which is why he will not get another year. He understands the protection calls on the line and has authority to audible or change plays at the line when he see's certain defensive formations. Zeon Chriss is a RS Freshmen and hasn't played or seen the amount of football Ben Woolridge has at this stage. The coaching staff was able to make adjustments while sitting in the locker room because of weather delay and run the plays that fit his abilities. UAB had not seen him on tape except for 1 play in the ODU game.
Going forward fans better understand that won't be the case now. Zeon is very talented, but just like in Levi's case he will make great plays and he will make plays that will have you throwing your remote across the room. He has a learning curve and it won't always be pretty against the better defenses left on the schedule.
As for Ben, I hope he can return in 4 weeks because this is his last opportunity to play college football. If Zeon is performing well at that point and has the locker room behind him, they won't make a change. But until then, better hope Zeon Chriss stays healthy because you backup is now Fields and true freshmen behind him.
Jake threw more interceptions his freshman season than actual touchdowns. It took Brian Mitchell 15 months to get comfortable in that offense, while playing. QB is entirely different when you have coaches scheming against what you do best.
So it will be exacting watching him grow, but it will come with ups and downs.
