It’s only a factor because we haven’t developed a fan base the proper way. We aren’t competing for national championships, or hosting teams that bandwagon fans care about.
So we have to approach building a stronger, more loyal fan base through student participation. Grow student organizations and create a bond through athletics. We have failed to do that for the last three decades.
My sister drives over six hours to come to the home games this year.
That is awesome, we need about 2000 more people like that. App State has people that drive from the Metro Greensboro, Metro Charlotte and Metro Raleigh areas to see their games every week. Those are 2 hours, 2 hours and 3 hours away respectively. We can't get people to drive 15 minutes sometimes.
Lets be fair her daughter is on the Ragin Jazz so there is a reason but they make the trip from Keller Tx to Lafayette for every home game. That is until they mover here they are looking to buy a home in this area.
I get it, my daughter is a cheerleader for the Acadiana Home School football team, and we have had road games in Varsity and JV so far in (Tomball, TX - 4 hours), (Deweyville, TX - 2 hours), (Carencro - 1 hour), (Eunice 1 - hour). We still have road games this year in (Conroe, TX - 4 hours), (Longview, TX - 4 hours) and (Baton Rouge - 1 hour)
Has anyone seen a promotional push thus far for the game this weekend? So far all I've seen is a couple posts encouraging people who already have tickets to download them.
I know everyone wants to be optimistic, but I HIGHLY doubt we see 20k+ for a matchup against Buffalo.
I just hope the students show out like they did Game 1. That way, there will be young energy in the stands and it may still look like a half-decent turnout on TV.
