On the other hand, someone like Cajun4life who knows as much on our recruiting as any fan, said our receivers would be better eventually than the group that just left. After reading that, I was somewhat confident our receivers would be fine. When I went to the open practice, I was also confident we would be OK in that area. Harvey Broussard looked good that late afternoon. Kyle is not the only one who has been wrong in the past. I have missed on some of my projections on Cajun basketball players, both good and bad. It appears Kyle may have missed on another projection when he said Bryan Breese would not work out as the Saints 1st round pick. So far he is playing about 50 percent of the snaps at DT and has been effective. Hopefully that continues.
Breese is going to be a stud, mark my words. The jury is still out on Trevor Penning, I think he could end up being a bust. I have not been impressed with him so far now granted this is a very small sample size so far, but he needs to get better.

Like everyone else I wasn't too excited about the for the 2023 season. But that's on paper and games are played on the football field. If everyone continues to play well this year as it has played out thus far, this schedule could end up better than projected.

ODU had a chance to beat Wake Forest last weekend, fell a part in the 4th quarter.
South Alabama is 2-1 and crushed Oklahoma State.
    Texas State beat Baylor 2-1
    ULM beat Army 2-1
    Georgia State is 3-0

The only one that hasn't shown improvement over last season is Arkansas State.

The schedule is going to get tougher as the season progresses. But it's far from complete garbage as of today.

Penning played much better last night than in Game 1. On the 2nd Tony Jones TD, he was the key guy in opening up a hole. In the first half, several of the OL guys struggled. When Kamara returns, the whole OL will look better. Just throwing the ball over the head of rushing defenders on a screen to No. 41 will slow down the rush considerably. Keep in mind that in the preseason game in which the Saints No. 1 offensive unit scored a TD, Kamara was on the field. Bringing the topic back to the Cajuns, their OL group has me quite encouraged as they have improved every game.

Penning has missed entirely too many snaps. His development is behind the curve at this point. He missed most of last season after injury. He missed off season workouts and camps and had to be brought along slowly this pre-season camp. That's over a year of actual on the field work and development.

It you look at the past 3 drafts and look at the top LT's drafted in the 1st round and none of them were very good their first season.

Agreed with the schedule, although we could not have known that.

Nw State was a crappy FCS school no doubt.
ODU is going to be much better than we thought
UAB won a bowl game last year and expectations were they would challenge for a bowl again.
Buffalo won a bowl game last year and they were expected to challenge for the MAC East Championship, not my words, coaches poll, Ahthlon and Phil Steele.
Minnesota was predicted to finish 3rd in the B1G West, they have not looked great at all. Granted the West is much weaker than the East in the B1G, but they were picked behind Wisconsin and Iowa.
Texas State is much improved this year.
Georgia State has an explosive offense and possibly the QB playing the best in the league right now.
USA is good, they just went on the road and beat Oklahoma State
Arkansas State is flat out trash
USM, I don't know what to think of this team yet, but they have Frank Gore JR and he might be the best player in the league.
Troy is good defensively and is going to be a tough game on the road.
ULM doesn't know who they are, but they always challenge us they seem to have a very good defense and running game but suspect in the passing game for sure. I'll get ripped on twitter by some douchbag from ULM that follows raginpagin and gives me hell about Jiya Wright and his QB abilities, but I think it is time for the Jiya Wright experiment to end.

We could not have known how bad Buffalo and UAB were going to be, these are constantly bowl eligible teams.

Can we talk about Jacob Bernard's downfield block on ZC's 80 yard run. Love to see WR's blocking downfield.

Also, we might have gotten away with a tackle that they could have, and I have seen called before for unnecessary roughness. I personally don't think it should be, but that Keyon Martin tackle on the WR from UAB where he picked him up and threw him down has been called in the past. I'm glad it wasn't called Saturday night.

He's only going to get a certain play book, like you said he's a work in progress much like Levi.

Even the UAB broadcast team said that the tackle was not a problem. Perfectly legal doesn’t matter to hallucinating zebras though.

Oh, I agree, I have just seen it called before.

I know why deep balls help. I’m saying if I have give up deep pass accuracy for top tier running ability, I’ll take that trade every day at the our level.

Yeah that’s an illegal tackle for the quarterback in the pocket, or a receiver who hasn’t had a chance to make a defensive move. But running quarterbacks, running backs lose their cloak of invulnerability.

You're right. Our wr's do a good job of blocking downfield. I don't think we have any primadonnas in the wr room. Seem to be a bunch of lunch pail guys.
